रस के सेवन से पित्तजन्य शीर्षशूल, अर्धांवभेदक, सूर्यावर्त आदि मस्तकशूल, खट्टी वमन, निद्रानाश, पित्तज उन्माद, दा पसीने में दुर्गन्ध, ऊर्ध्व रक्तपित्त, नाक में से रक्त गिरना, मुंह में छाले होना इत्यादि रोग नष्ट होते हैं।
लघु सूतशेखर पित्तधातु की अम्लता और तीक्ष्णता का नाशक, प्रसादक और स्तम्भक है, एवं पित्त प्रकोप से होने वाले सब रोगों में लाभदासा है।
पित्तज शीर्षशूल और उसके साथ चक्कर, उदर में दर्द, व्याकुलता, वमन होने पर शिरदर्द में न्यूनता आदि लक्षण हों, तो सूतशेखर देना चाहिये। अर्धावभेदक और सूर्यावर्त (अर्धशीशी) में जैसे उष्णता की वृद्धि होती है वैसे शिरदर्द भी बढ़ता जाता है, और वमन हो जाने शिरदर्द शमन हो जाता है। ऐसा लक्षण होने पर लघुसूतशेखर देना चाहिये।
पित्तज उन्माद में बेसुधि कम, परन्तु त्रास, प्रलाप, निद्रानाश, चक्कर भ्रम और सारे शरीर और शिर में भी प्रस्वेद आना, प्रस्वेद में ए प्रकार की दुर्गन्ध आना आदि लक्षण उपस्थित होते हैं। उस पर लघु सूतशेखर और सुवर्णमाक्षिक भस्म को मिला पेठे के रस के साथ देने से उत्तम उपयोग होता है।
निद्रानाश पित्तप्रकोप से होता है, तब सर्वांग में दाह होता है और हाथ पैर टूटते हैं, एवं मस्तिष्क में भ्रम के सदृश या उठा उठाकर फेंकने के सदृश भास होता हो तथा उदर में दाह आदि लक्षण हों, तो लघु सूतशेखर दूध के साथ देना चाहिये।
नाक में होने वाले रक्तस्त्राव में पित्ताधिक्य होने पर इसका उपयोग होता है। अति वमन होने के पश्चात् थोड़ा-सा रक्त गिरने पर इस लघु सूतशेखर का उपयोग हितकाकरक है।

सूतशेखर पित्त की अम्लता और तीक्ष्णता का शमन करता है एवं वातप्रकोप को भी नष्ट करता है; जिससे वातपित्तात्मक विकारों को दूर करने में यह अत्यन्त हितकर है। यह रसायन आमाशय और पित्ताशय में पित्तप्रकोप का शमन करके पित्तोत्पत्ति को नियमित बनाता है, जिससे अम्लपित्त, खट्टी वमन, पित्तवृद्धि से उत्पन्न होने वाला कोष्ठस्थ शूल, हिक्का, उदावर्त, पित्तज शीर्षशूल, दाह, घबराहट, चक्कर आना, निद्रानाश, पित्तज उन्माद, नाक में से होने वाला रक्तस्राव, मुंह में छाले होना शीतपित्त आदि रोग नष्ट होते हैं। एवं यह पित्तशामक, हृद्य और संग्राह्य होने से मधुरा, सूतिका रोग, क्षय की प्रथमा और द्वितीयावस्था, पित्तातिसार, रक्तातिसार, ज्वरातिसार, नया पित्तज ग्रहणी रोग आदि में सेन्द्रिय विष को नष्ट करके दस्त को बाँधता है, दाह को कम करता है, और ज्वर का शमन करता है। वातपित्तात्मक सूखी खांसी, जो घण्टों तक आती रहती है; जिसमें कफ नहीं निकलता, जो सोने के समय अधिक त्रास पहुँचाती है, उसे और पित्तप्रधान श्वासरोग को भी यह दूर करता है, पित्ताशय कमजोर हो जाने से पित्तोत्पत्ति कम होती है। उस हेतु से अरुचि, मन्दाग्नि, निर्बलता आदि रहते हों; तो वह भी इस रसायन के सेवन से नियमित होती हैं। सूतशेखर का कार्यसहस्त्रार और वातवाहिनियों पर शामक होता है। इनमें भी हृदय, फुफ्फुस, आमाशय और अन्त्र पर अधिकार रखने वाली बातवाहिनियों पर विशेष कार्य होता है।
